Ambassador Ömer Gücük joined Turkish Foreign Service in 1986 and started his diplomatic career in Foreign Ministry’s Department of Cultural Affairs. Following his military service, he served as Attaché in the Department of Pacific and Latin America.
He was assigned to Permanent Representative of Turkey to OECD in 1990 and served as Third Secretary and Second Secretary for three years. Between 1993-1995, he worked as Second Secretary and First Secretary at the Embassy of Turkey in Tripoli.
Upon his return to Ankara, he served as First Secretary in the Center for Strategic Research.
He was appointed as First Secretary to the Permanent Representative of Turkey to FAO in 1997. Upon the closure of the Office of the Permanent Representation of Turkey to FAO in 1999, he continued his duties at the Embassy of Turkey in Rome until 2001 as Counsellor.
He served as Chief of Cabinet for four different Foreign Ministers in 2001-2003.
He was posted to the Permanent Representation of Turkey to UN in New York and worked as Counsellor and First Counsellor for four years.
After assuming his duties as the Head of Department in the General Directorate for Protocol between 2007-2009, he was appointed as the Deputy Director General for European Union Accession Process.
He was appointed as Ambassador to Tunisia in 2012.
After serving as the Director-General for Multilateral Economic Affairs between 2018-2021, he was appointed as Ambassador of Turkey to Italy.
Since May 2021, he is serving as the Turkish Ambassador to Italy.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hacettepe University in Ankara. He speaks French, English and Italian.
He is married and has two children.
